Yvonne Gillis

Yvonne F. (Winters) Gillis, 85, of McPherson, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at The Cedars in McPherson. Prior to retirement she worked at Kit Manufacturing/Road Ranger as a saw operator. She later worked for Dillon’s in the garden center and as a checker and also as a greeter at Wal-Mart.

She was born March 9, 1926 in Anadarko, Oklahoma the daughter of Julian E. and Dorothy L. (Goodwin) Winters. She was one of seven children born to the Winters family.

On December 20, 1969, she married William A. “Bill” Gillis in Salina, Kansas. Yvonne had lived in McPherson County since 1969, moving from Kansas City, Missouri. Survivors include: her husband, Bill of the home; a son, Kerry Gillis (Cheri) of McPherson; two grandchildren, Lenae and Ryan Gillis of McPherson; four brothers, Jerry Winters of Houston, TX, Larry Jo Winters of Liberty, MO, Dwain Winters of Houston, TX, and Danny Winters of Houston, TX; and two sisters, Judy Galindo of El Paso, TX and Debbie Seals of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-mother, Dorothy M. “Dot” (Evans) Winters, and two children, Sean and Candie Courtin.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 6, 2011, at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
