Wayne Gibson

Wayne O. Gibson, 87, of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at The Cedars, McPherson. Wayne was born on August 28, 1921 in Astoria, Illinois, the son of Irvin and Ethel (Mummert) Gibson. He received his Master's Degree in History from the University of California at Berkeley. On March 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lucile Marie Harris at the Church of the Brethren in Denver, CO. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, European Theater of Operations. He was a probation officer for the Alameda County Dept. of Corrections in California for 21 years. He also worked as a court bailiff in Fort Collins, CO.

Wayne attended the McPherson Church of the Brethren.

The memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, September 13, 2008, at The Cedars Wellness Center, McPherson with Rev. Chris Whitacre officiating. The body was donated to the University of Kansas School of Medicine in accordance with the deceased's wishes. There will be no visitation.

He is survived by his wife, Lucile of the home; sons, Randy Gibson of Takoma Park, MD and Brad Gibson of Berkeley, CA; daughter, Debra Jensen of Gilroy, CA; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Bowman.
