Virginia M. Paden, 86, of Galva, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013, at McPherson Hospital. She was a retired waitress and had worked at several area restaurants including the Cozy Inn and Lem's in McPherson. She also worked as a greeter at the McPherson Wal-Mart.
She was born May 23, 1926, in Galva, Kansas, the daughter of Johnny V. and Ida (Nightingale) Decker. On September 3, 1944, she married Benjamin R. "Benny" Paden in Phoenix City, Alabama. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2001.
Virginia was a member of Countryside Covenant Church, Jolly Mixers of Salina, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include: two daughters: Cheryl Stieben (Richard) of McPherson, KS and Charmaine Graham of Galva, KS; a brother, Larry Decker of Galva, KS; a sister, Lois Lokie of Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren, Stephanie Shirley (Lyle) of Chicago, IL, Gina Westhoff (Dale) of Great Bend, KS, Brad Stieben (Nikki) of Tampa, FL, and Tara Capps (Nick Berning) of Scott City, KS; eight great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 24, at Empire Cemetery near Galva. Memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM at Countryside Covenant Church in McPherson. Rev. Jon Black and Rev. John Stultz will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
