Verne Young

Verne W. Young, 85, of McPherson, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007, at The Cedars, McPherson. Verne was born on August 15, 1922, at Marquette, Kansas, the son of Walter and Edna B. (Ingemanson) Young. He graduated from Marquette High School and McPherson College. He received his Master's Degree from Wichita State University. On May 23, 1945, Verne was united in marriage to Edith A. Little at the Monitor Church near Conway, Kansas. He was a retired Principal at McPherson Junior High School, a teacher and Principal at Washington Elementary School, and taught school at Marquette and Little River.

Verne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lions Club International, Kansas National Education Association, McPherson Area Retired Teachers Association, volunteered at the McPherson County Food Bank, and was a 4-H leader.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, November 26, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Scott Waterford presiding. Burial will be at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

Survivors include: his wife, Edith of the home; a son, Ron Young of Milton, MA; two daughters, Christy Dowdy of Huntingdon, PA and Carrie Ann Richter of Edmond, OK; and nine grandchildren.
