Vermoyne Cunningham

Vermoyne J. Cunningham, 92, of McPherson, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011, at McPherson Hospital. She was a homemaker and former employee of the Dillon’s Store, where she worked in the meat department. She had been a McPherson resident since 1938.

She was born June 20, 1919, in Roxbury, Kansas, the daughter of Charles M. and Jessica L. (Laessig) Marston. On June 20, 1938, she was united in marriage to Wayne R. Cunningham in Roxbury. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2010.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, VFW Post #2715 Ladies Auxiliary, and the McPherson Senior Center Kitchenettes Band.

Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Liz” Cunningham of McPherson; four grandchildren, Tammy Wann of McPherson, Bryon Cunningham of Cedar Park, TX, Cristy Cunningham of Waco, TX, and Sharon Vickerson of Tuscaloosa, AL, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; a step-sister, Elma Dibble of Alton, KS, two sisters-in-law, Mildred Marston of Lindsborg, KS and Earlene Marston of Roxbury, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; two sons, Wayne C. “Buster” Cunningham and Gary Cunningham; a great-granddaughter, Karlie Odom; two brothers, Charles (Jr.) Marston and Carrol Marston; five sisters, Arlone Kirby, Myriel Ratzlaff, Guinivere Swedberg, Orel Bair, and Dolores Everhart; and a half-sister, Ethel Anderson.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. H. Dick Reynolds will officiate the service. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
