Vera M. Czaplinsky, 95, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Via Christi-St.Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. She was a homemaker.
She was born December 13, 1922, in Ukraine, Russia in the village of Arbuzinka. She was the daughter of Mikhael and Maria Bugajova. Vera and her family endured much oppression at the hands of the Soviet regime. Their home and possessions were confiscated, and they were forced to flee. Vera, however, was a good student and managed to earn a degree in animal husbandry.
Vera married Vladimir M. Czaplinsky on December 8, 1942. They joined with the German forces as they retreated in 1943 and spent the next seven years in a displaced persons camp.
In 1951, they were sponsored by the Church of the Brethren in McPherson, Kansas and immigrated to the United States.
Survivors include: two sons, George Czaplinski (Judy) of Mission Hills, KS and Gene Czaplinsky of Los Angeles, CA.; a daughter, Helen Griffin (Bruce) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Lane Czaplinski, Sasha Kanji Czaplinsky, Blaire Cox (Daniel), Allison Griffin, and Thomas Griffin, and a great-granddaughter, Vera Cox, to be born in June.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vladimir, who died on November 6, 1975.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at McPherson Cemetery at 1:30 PM with Rev. Tom Griffith officiating.
