Velma I. Shawly

Velma I. Shawly, 93, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at McPherson Care Center. She had worked for Dillons Grocery Store for 28 years, retiring as head checker.

Velma was born on September 26, 1920, in Canton, KS, the daughter of Jacob F. and Sarah (Janzen) Goertz. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1938. On February 18, 1940, Velma was united in marriage to Marion Shawly in McPherson. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1987.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: son, Terry Shawly of McPherson, KS and sister, Marlys Pankratz of Canton, KS.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Ervin, William, and Paul Goertz.

The graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 18, 2014, at McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Lynn Scott officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 17, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
