Shawn C. Kail

Shawn Christopher Kail, 46, of Wichita, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, surrounded by family at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center, Wichita.

Shawn was a world-renowned bassist. Whether teaching private instruction to students of all ages, headlining music festivals in Europe, or playing gigs seven nights a week, he was able to touch the hearts of many.

Shawn was born on October 25, 1972, in McPherson, KS, the son of Steve and Jeanne (Urbanek) Kail. He graduated from McPherson High School, Class of 1991. He also attended Hutchinson Community College and Wichita State University. On June 26, 1993, Shawn was united in marriage to Dawn Marie Viola in McPherson, Kansas.

He was a member of the Wichita Blues Society.

Survivors include: his wife, Dawn, and two children, Jeremy and Kinta Kail, all of Wichita, KS; parents, Steve and Jeanne Kail of McPherson, KS; parents-in-law, David and Donna Viola of Fort Myers, FL; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeremy Kail.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at All Saints Catholic Church, Wichita. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, at McPherson Cemetery. A time of celebration with the family receiving friends will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, September 16, in the Parish Hall at the church.
