Sharon Kay Atkinson, 73, was born on May 15, 1943, in Great Bend, Kansas and passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 8, 2016, in Toledo, Ohio.
Sharon spent the majority of her life in McPherson, Kansas, where she had a close circle of friends and was a well-known and much liked member of her church and community.
She was a kind, compassionate, generous, and hard-working woman who truly enjoyed life.
She had many loves, including reading, writing, traveling, and visiting with friends and family. But her greatest loves were her three children, Michael, Meridith, and Monique.
Sharon’s last years before moving to Perrysburg, Ohio were spent working for the McPherson County Appraisers Office and Ace Hardware, where she spent many a day talking to customers and helping them find items they didn’t even know they needed.
Sharon is survived by: her three children, Michael Hertach (Ashleigh Popkin) of Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, Meridith Hertach of Denver, Colorado, and Monique Hertach Thompson (Farrell) of Perrysburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Samantha, Madison, Mary, and Lacy; great-grandchild, Ricky; two brothers, Clifford Hickel (Martha) of San Antonio, Texas and Steven Hickel of Overland Park, Kansas; and younger sister, Janis Bunker (David) of Lawrence, Kansas.
Sharon is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kylee Renee Crawford, and her parents, Arthur and Mae Hickel.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 14, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Darren Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
