Russel Martin

Russel Dean Martin, 69, of McPherson, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012.

Russel was born on September 11, 1943, in Memphis, MO, to Virgil and Marjorie (Weldon) Martin. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of American Legion Post #24, V.F.W. Post #2715, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Russel lived in McPherson for nearly 50 years. On July 27, 1984, he was united in marriage to Judy Jackson of Wichita, KS. Before retiring, Russel was the owner and operator of Martin Drapery. He also took great pride in being a stay-at-home dad to his children.

Russel is survived by: his wife Judy Martin, his children, Shannon Holland (Michael Moore), Justin Martin, and Jennifer Martin (Chad Hostetler); grandson, Gabriel Ethan Dean Martin; sisters, Marcia (Dave) Irvin and Sherry (LaVern) Laws; and sister-in-law, Deanna Martin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dalby, Vern, Rex, and Jay Martin, and sister, Sue Gaddis.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Les Cantrell officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Crestwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
