Roland P. Plenert, 92, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Angel Arms, McPherson. He was a retired diesel mechanic and farmer. Roland served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
Roland was born on July 5, 1922, in Hillsboro, KS, the son of Adolph and Helen (Hiebert) Plenert. On January 31, 1947, he was united in marriage to Etta Mae Matz in McPherson. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2002.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a life member of the V.F.W. Post #2715.
Survivors include: four children, Darrell Plenert and wife, Kris, of McPherson, KS, Richard Plenert and wife, Connie, of McPherson, KS, Joyce Gingrich of McPherson, KS, and Mike Plenert and wife, Delberta “Birdie” of McPherson, KS; brothers, Abe Plenert and wife, Janice, of Dillon, MT and John Plenert and wife, Cookie, of Schwenksville, PA; sister, Doris David and husband, Fred, of Hillsboro, KS; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Jerry Plenert, and brothers, Gordon Plenert and LaVerne Plenert.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 15, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, McPherson with Rev. Quentin Bennett officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 14, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
