Roger Graves

Roger D. Graves, 71, of McPherson, died Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at The Cedars in McPherson. Roger was born on May 30, 1935, at Wichita, Kansas, the son of Vern C. Sr. and Irene D. (Lehnus) Graves. He graduated from Wichita North High School in 1953 and attended Hutchinson Junior College. On September 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to Clarice V. Coate at Wichita, Kansas. He was a resident of McPherson since 1978, formerly of Charleston, SC and Wichita, KS. He was retired from U.S. Navy at the rank of Chief Petty Officer (1955-1978) and also owned and operated McPherson Stamp & Engraving Co. He was a Vietnam veteran.

Roger was a member of the First Baptist Church, Y.E.S. Sunday School Class, Lions Club International, and the American Legion Post #24, all of McPherson.

His survivors include: his wife, Clarice of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Graves of Lyons, GA and Alan Graves of McPherson, KS; three daughters, Candace Rapking of Cinncinnati, OH, Audrey Faust of McPherson, KS, and Rebecca Swanson of Springfield, MO; brothers, Jerry Graves of Clearwater, KS and Philip Graves of Wichita, KS; sister, Vicki Thomas of Bentonville, AR; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Vern C. Graves, Jr.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 AM Monday, November 6, 2006, at the First Baptist Church, McPherson. Inurnment of the cremains, with Military Honors, will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday, November 5, 2006, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.
