Rodney Williams

Rodney L. Williams, 73, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. He had worked for Vanguard Plastics and Viega as a purchasing manager. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard from 1957 to 1961.

He was born on June 2, 1939, in Big Springs, NE, the son of Carl D. and Leota L. (Knackstedt) Williams. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1957 and attended McPherson College.

On August 17, 1963, he was united in marriage to Barbara K. Layton in Wichita, KS.

He was involved in scouting for over 40 years and was former Scoutmaster for Troop 133. He received the Silver Beaver Award and Vigil of the Order of the Arrow. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Barbara of the home; son, Brad Williams and wife, Carol, of Storm Lake, IA; brothers, Sheldon C. Williams and wife, Barbara, of Reston, VA and LaVerne A. Williams of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Erich Williams and Samuel Williams; and several nieces & nephews.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gerald Williams.

A visitation is scheduled from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Cremation will take place following the visitation.
