Robert D. "Bob" Carlson, 83, of McPherson, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. Bob was born on October 7, 1925, in McPherson, Kansas, the son of Carl Alvin and Ruth Irene (Yowell) Carlson. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific. He also later served in the National Guard. On July 26, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to Betty Jean Becker in Perham, MN. He retired from Farmland Industries in 1990 as a parts foreman and diesel truck mechanic, working there for over 30 years.

Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church and the V.F.W. Post #2715, both of McPherson.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, McPherson with Rev. Les Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post #24 and the V.F.W. Post #2715. Visitation is from 3:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Survivors include: wife, Betty of the home; sons, Dennis Carlson and wife, Sherill A., of McPherson, KS and Steve Carlson and wife, Lori, of McPherson, KS; daughter, Diane Rhea and husband, Terry, of Lake Kanopolis, KS; brother, Carl E. Carlson and wife, Veola, of McPherson, KS; half brothers, Clarence Carlson of Pratt, KS and Marion Carlson and wife, Teri, of Kechi, KS; half sister, Carla Wolf of Salisbury, MD; step-sisters, Jetty Cheney of Grimes, IA and Juanita Beal and husband, Tyson, of Des Moines, IA; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a step-brother, Daryl Hanson.
