Rita M. Owens

Rita Marie Owens, 82, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, surrounded by family at Hospice House, Hutchinson. 

Rita was born on October 27, 1940, in York, NE, the daughter of Louis Vincent and Helen Marie (Haupt) Kaspari.  She graduated from McPherson High School in 1958.  She worked as a secretary for Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance and CertainTeed.

On March 19, 1960, Rita was united in marriage to John “Johnny” Everett Owens in McPherson, KS.  This union was blessed with three children, Terri, Jeff, and Julie.  Johnny preceded Rita in death on June 5, 2017.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include: three children, Terri (Mark) Archer of McPherson, KS, Jeff Owens of McPherson, KS, and Julie (Lyle) Silsby of Canton, KS; six grandchildren, Jason (Samantha) Archer, Craig (Haley) Archer, Travis (Juliana) Myers, Taylor (Darci) Myers, Leah Silsby, and Garrett Silsby; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Steve) Ulrey of Houston, TX; sisters-in-law, Enid Wilmeth of Ft. Collins, CO and Pearl Kaspari of Sutherland, NE; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Bernard Kaspari and James Kaspari.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.  A funeral rite will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, September 25, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Father Benjamin Shockey officiating.  Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.  To view a live stream broadcast of the service, please click on the following link: https://evt.live/funeral-service-for-rita-m-owens
