Lorene “Rene” Pauls, 81, of McPherson, KS, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at McPherson Hospital. Rene was born in Enid, OK, to Henry G. and Elsie (Schmidt) Toews and raised in Kremlin, OK. She later graduated from Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS in 1958 and married James Pauls in Enid, OK.
She taught senior high school business at Berryton, KS for three years before leaving the profession to raise a family of three sons. In 1968, the family moved to Wichita for four years where she was occupied being a busy mom. In 1972, the family made a move to McPherson. She has been a McPherson resident for 46 years.
Rene was very active in several activities. She was involved in Christian Women’s Bible Study, a Youth Coordinator and eventually a staff member in Christian Education at First Baptist Church. She worked as a bookkeeper at Raleigh’s Drug Store, and was involved as a volunteer as well as in fundraising for the Harry Hynes Hospice. She was a member of the church choir, as well as the bell choir. Rene was a long time teacher for the Shalom Sunday School class, and also served as chair for the First Baptist Church Foundation. Her impact touched the lives of countless individuals, many of whom were needful, both young and old.
Rene leaves behind to mourn her husband, Jim; three sons, David (Kathy) Pauls of Manhattan, KS, John (Susan) Pauls of Lawrence, KS, and Tom (Carole) Pauls of Denver, CO; a sister, Gerry (Del) Reimer of Hesston, KS; six grandchildren, Aaron (Ashley) Pauls of Manhattan, KS, Hannah (Kendall) Ens of Manhattan, KS, Ethan (Hannah) Pauls of Gardner, KS, Lauren Pauls of Denver, CO, Daniel Pauls of Newberg, OR, and Yohannes Martin Pauls of Denver, CO.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 8, 2018, in the east room of the First Baptist Church, McPherson. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 9, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Lynn Scott officiating. A graveside service will precede the service at 9:00 AM, Monday, at McPherson Cemetery.
