Ralph Base

Ralph Base, 84, of McPherson and formerly of Galva, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2011, at The Cedars, McPherson. He worked at Galva Feed Mill for many years as a miller and delivery man.

Ralph was born on April 24, 1927, in McPherson County, the son of Ben J. and Ida (Eck) Base. He attended Happy Hollow School near Galva, Kansas. On July 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Lavada Marie Nightingale at Chickasha, OK. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2000.

He was a member of Word of Faith Fellowship Church and former member of United Center Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in the United Center Church Cemetery, Galva.

Survivors include: sons, Earl Base and wife, Verna, of Galva, KS and Junior Jay Base of McPherson, Kansas; three grandchildren, Teri Mastre and husband, Dwayne, Audrey Koehn and husband, Brandon, and Mariah Sawyer and husband, Travis; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Eldon Base and wife, Sharon, of Turlock, CA and Jonas Base and wife, Karen, of McPherson, KS; sisters-in-law, Alice Schmidt of Rich Hill, MO, Linda Davis of Springdale, AR, and Maggie Base of Rich Hill, MO; and special friends, Norman & Karlene Schmidt of Moundridge, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Cecil, Gilmore, Paul, and Harry Base; and sister, Verbie Koehn.
