Phyllis Beam

Phyllis N. Beam, 80, of McPherson, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011. She was born January 7, 1931, in Quinter, KS, the daughter of D. Louis and Mary (Miller) Bowman. She graduated from Quinter High School in 1949 and McPherson College in 1953. On August 8, 1952, she was united in marriage to Royce C. Beam. She was a homemaker.

Phyllis was a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren, where she was active on numerous boards including the building committee, was a member of P.E.O. Chapter AY; McPherson Quilters Guild, King City EHU, and was a 4-H Leader. She also chaired The Cedars Board during the development and construction of the present nursing home and The Village on First Street.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the McPherson Church of the Brethren with Rev. Chris Whitacre officiating. A private burial of cremains will precede the memorial service at the McPherson Cemetery.

Survivors include: her husband, Royce of the home; children, Alan Beam (Kathy Zaremba) of Burrton, KS, Dr. Daryl Beam (Corina) of Hays, KS; Lisa Meyer (David) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Neal Beam of McPherson, KS; daughter-in-law, Lela Beam of McPherson, KS; two brothers, Dr. Winston Bowman (Janice) of Benicia, CA and Larry Bowman (Ann) of Hutchinson, KS; sister, Marilue Watkins (Dr. Stanley) of Cedar Rapids, IA; and seven grandchildren.
