P. Russell Miller, 80, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, surrounded by family at Hospice House, Hutchinson. Pearl Russell Miller was born June 7, 1943, in Bennington, Kansas to Rose Alice and Pearl Wilson Miller.
Russell went to school up to the 8th grade at Gypsum, Kansas. He enlisted into the Marines at age 16.
On March 5, 1966, in Marquette, Kansas, he married Doris Ann Swabby. They were blessed with two children, Debra Ann and David Russell.
They lived in Salina, Kansas for seven years where Russell worked at Golf Truck Stop, Sinclair Service Station, and later at Farm Bureau as a truck driver delivering farm supplies throughout Kansas. He moved his family to rural Rice county and continued to assist his father-in-law with farming. He had also worked at S-G Diesel Power in McPherson and at Little River Manufacturing, a firm that made airplane parts. In 1992, he became an owner of his own service station, Miller's Service Station. In 2000, he went to work for Turkey Creek Farm in Moundridge, delivering newly hatched turkeys to places in mid America. He later drove a delivery truck for Stutzmans Greenhouse in Pleasantville, Kansas.
In 2017, Russell and Doris moved from the family farm near Windom to Hutchinson, Kansas where he finally retired.
Russell's hobbies were farming, fishing, hunting, automobile mechanics, and loving his dogs, Mitzy and Brownie. He treasured his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Doris, mother, father, and brother, Charles Miller.
Survivors are children, Debra and Tim Skalinder, David Miller and Brenda Barber; sister, Carrolyn Henry; grandchildren, Dakota and Rebecca Skalinder, Alie and Andrew Durst, and Josie Miller; and three great-grandchildren, Kenna, Bryson, and Delani.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, November 2, at Excelsior Cemetery, Marquette Kansas.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Lung Association in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
