Opal J. Hanson

Opal Janice Hanson, 89, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2019, surrounded by her family and loved ones at McPherson Hospital. In her earlier years, she was a teacher and then worked as an insurance clerk at CertainTeed. She later was the secretary/receptionist at the law firm of Bremyer & Wise and also at McPherson County Abstract.

Opal was born on December 5, 1929, in Roxbury, KS, the daughter of Arnold and Emma (Decker) Jantz. She graduated from Roxbury High School and went on to receive her teaching degree from Central College and McPherson College. Opal was united in marriage to Harold Marvin Hanson on June 15, 1952, in Roxbury, KS.

She was a member of the Unity of Wichita Church and founder & president of the Opal Hanson Local Breakfast Club.

Survivors include: son, Keith Hanson of Seal Beach, CA; daughter, Marlene Bartolo (Kevin) of Norwalk, CT; sister, Olive Ubel (David Liu) of Topeka, KS; brother, Orlo Jantz (June) of Prescott, AZ; two grandsons, Zack Bartolo and Mitch Bartolo; brother-in-law, Elmer Hanson of McPherson, KS; sister-in-law, Vivian Mayberry of Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harold.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, August 23, 2019, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM, Saturday, August 24, at Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury with a celebratory memorial service following at 11:00 AM, Saturday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A procession to Roxbury will leave Stockham Family Funeral Home at 8:30 AM, Saturday for those interested in attending the brief graveside service.
