Norma J. Dillon, 85, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at The Cedars, McPherson. She was an account clerk with Senseney Music Store in Wichita, KS for nearly 20 years. Previously she worked at N.R.C.A. and Poehler Wholesale Grocery, both in McPherson. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority.
She was born on July 28, 1928, in Dilworth, Oklahoma, the daughter of Bud Milton and Vesta Fern (Dobbs) Esser. Norma graduated from McPherson High School in 1946. On October 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to George R. Vahsholtz in McPherson. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1962. She later married Robert J. Dillon.
Norma was a member of First United Methodist Church for many years, all through her childhood and after she returned to McPherson. She also was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church of McPherson.
Survivors include: sisters, Marjorie Anna Enochs of McPherson, KS and Florence Aline Hull of Ashland, KY (formerly of Manhattan, KS); nephew, Craig Enochs (Jenee) of McPherson, KS; five nieces, Jaclynn Enochs (Ryan Jay Stout) of Ponca City, OK, Marva Lee Nelson (Robert) of Katy, TX, Donna Goltry (Scott) of Wichita, KS, Cindy Berquist (Roger) of Bloomington, MN, Stephanie Schumann (Tracy) of Ashland, KY; nine grandnieces, four grandnephews, two great-grandnieces, and four great-grandnephews.
Norma loved her family, helping care for them and attending their recitals or events whenever she could. After retiring, Norma moved back from Wichita to McPherson, where she and her sister, Marjorie, spent time together. A special hobby was collecting glass shoes. In her last three years, Norma made special friendships with loving caregivers at The Cedars.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 21, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kate Johnson Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Park, McPherson. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
