Neva Frances McCormick Rounds, 89, passed away at her home on Sunday, April 6, 2014. She was born November 29, 1924, in Lebanon, Missouri, the daughter of William Ernest and Alice Elizabeth (Stanfield) Duncan. She attended Black Foot School and Lebanon Missouri Schools.
On January 29, 1942, she married Billy B. McCormick in Lebanon, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1985, after 43 years of marriage. On October 17, 1991, Neva married Donald D. Rounds in McPherson, Kansas. They enjoyed married life together for 23 years.
Neva was the first Meter Maid in McPherson and also worked as a secretary for the Board of Public Utilities, before retiring in 1987. Neva was an avid walker and enjoyed traveling with her husband Don and their friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed attending the Free Methodist Church and volunteering at McPherson Hospital and Central College. In her earlier years, Neva had served as a Sunday school teacher, song leader, and choir director at First Church of God in McPherson.
Survivors include: husband, Don of the home; two daughters, Gloria Thurman of Cleveland, TN and Deanna Sullivan (George) of McPherson, KS; four grandchildren, Don Calfee (Nikki) of Cleveland, TN, Melodie Arnwine of Cleveland, TN, Scott Vogts (Angela) of Galva, KS, and Sarah Vogts of McPherson, KS; 11 great-grandchildren, Brandi, Cavett, & Tanner Calfee, Courtney & Caleb Arnwine, Zoie, Ethan, & Brody Vogts, and Keelyn, Kinsley, and Koty Lackey; a great-great grandchild, Casey Munger; a step-son, Kelly Rounds (Linda) of McPherson, KS; six step-grandchildren, Wayne Rounds (Brittany), Kenny Rounds (Stacy), Christy Velazquez (Eric), and Cameron Crick (Carol), Kim Robinson, and Lacee Green; ten step-great-grandchildren, Landon & Legend Rounds, Ryan Rounds, Celena & Thalia Velazquez, Caden & Claire Crick, Logan & Kabren Robinson, and Trent Green.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy; sisters, Ruby Pettet, Margaret Rice, Helen Pettet, Zella McCormick, Gertrude Barber, and Wanda Chew, and brothers, Ernest Duncan and James “J.T.” Duncan.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 10, 2014, at McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Griffith and Rev. James Ostlund officiating. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
