Nelson Stump

Nelson E. Stump, 66, of McPherson, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. He was a vocal music director at Harrison Junior High School in Great Bend and Salina South High School. He also worked at the Wichita Country Club and was the organist at Windom United Methodist Church.

He was born on October 6, 1941, at Cordell, Oklahoma, the son of Harley H. and Jeanette L. (Slaughter) Stump. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1959 and McPherson College in 1964. He was a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren and was active in local community theater productions.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Whitacre presiding. Burial will be at McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

His survivors include: his mother, Jeanette Stump of McPherson; his brother, Harl G. Stump and wife, LaVena, of Hays, KS; nephews, Stephen Stump and wife, Lisa, of St. Louis, MO, Phillip Stump and wife, Ellen, of Cheyenne, WY; four great-nephews and one great-niece. He was preceded in death by his father, Harley Stump, in 1996.
