Nancy A. Livengood, 80, of Wichita, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, at her home in Wichita. She was a retired teacher and had taught for nearly 50 years at McPherson Junior High School and McPherson Middle School. Her areas of instruction included communications, English, and literature. She was also a debate and forensics coach, as well as a cheerleading coach.
She was born June 21, 1938, in Timken, KS, the daughter of William H. and Magdalena T. (Hagerman) Tryon. She attended college at Hutchinson Community College, Friends University, and Wichita State University, eventually earning her Master’s Degree in education.
Nancy was a longtime member of the Preceptor Delta Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in McPherson and was active in many other community endeavors. She was always well liked by her students and had a way of making her classes both fun and interesting! Her quirky sense of humor and contagious smile were her trademarks, and she was always there to lend a sympathetic ear to anyone in need.
Survivors include: a daughter, Kimberly Barnes of Hutchinson, KS; two granddaughters, Darrien Siever of Wichita, KS and Krystall Barnes-Terry of Hutchinson, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A private service will be held at a later date.
