Max Ebaugh

Max C. Ebaugh, 94, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Services will be held at Stockham Family Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 21, 2013. Visitation and refreshments will take place immediately following the service at the First Baptist Church East Room. A private interment with Military Honors will be held prior to the service at the McPherson Cemetery.

Max was born on December 4, 1918, in rural McPherson County, KS. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1936 and served in the Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. Max married Peggy Jones on September 5, 1942.

Max is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Goodwin and Laretta Lydia (Watson) Ebaugh, his wife, Peggy V. Ebaugh, two brothers, and two sisters.

Max is survived by: his three children, Marsha Ebaugh and Camille Ebaugh Kluge of Wichita, KS, Brent (Linda) Ebaugh of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandsons, Dustin Ebaugh, Joshua Ebaugh, Lucas Ebaugh, David Kluge, and Noah Kluge; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Max, with his wife, Peggy, was a retail store owner in both Lindsborg and McPherson for many years, beginning in the 1950s. He was active in both communities through the Chambers of Commerce and received the President's Award in 1999.

Max was involved with and a leader of Baptist Churches (American) in both Lindsborg and McPherson. He was the Moderator of the McPherson church for many years and sang in Baptist Church choirs for over 60 years. Max was especially interested in the financial health of these institutions and served faithfully on finance committees.

Max may be most remembered for being a talented artist. He had dabbled in art when he was a young man, but became serious about woodcarving in the 1960s. He branched from there to etchings, acrylic painting and sculpture. He taught others interested in sculpture in his garage, and this group became very close. He continued painting until about two years ago.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the McPherson County Community Foundation Children's Fund or American Legion Post #24 in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
