Mary (Kinney) Crowdes, 85, of Marquette, KS and formerly of Windom, KS, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Paramount in Newton, KS. She was born on April 2, 1938, in Lyons, KS, the daughter of Claud Kinney and Alberta (Weese) Kinney. She grew up in Windom and graduated from Windom High School. She was May queen in 1956.
Mary worked as a cook for Windom Grade School and also worked at Riverview Estates in Marquette where she retired from. She enjoyed gardening, and she found a love for painting China pieces during her retirement years. She also collected just about every knick knack that she could. Mary was also known for her baking skills and always had some cookies baked for anyone who came and visited her.
Survivors include: her husband, Harold Crowdes of Little River, KS; sister, Marilyn (Gary) Holler of McPherson, KS; sons, Rick John of Pineville, LA, Mike (Teresa) John of Ft. Worth, TX, Clint John of Moundridge, KS, Larry (Tracy) John of Marquette, KS, Tim John of Oskaloosa, KS; a daughter, Melanie John of Roxbury, KS; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Claudine Babcock.
A private family graveside ceremony will be at a later date.
