Mary Caruthers

Mary E. Caruthers, 68, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2012, at her home, McPherson.

Mary owned & operated Mary's Boarding Kennel & Pet Shop. She was also a retired teacher, having taught for 34 years, mostly in U.S.D. 418 as an elementary teacher and reading specialist.

She was born on April 13, 1944, in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Lewis M. and Mary R. (Stonebraker) Nelson. She was a graduate of McPherson High School, McPherson College, and Emporia State University, where she earned a Master's Degree.

Mary was united in marriage to Randy A. Caruthers on April 9, 1971, in McPherson, KS.

Survivors include: husband, Randy of the home; brother, Charles Nelson and wife, Betty, of Rio Rancho, NM, sisters, Myrna Eis of McPherson, KS, Laurel Williams and husband, Larry, of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Mabel Friesen and husband, Dennis, of McPherson, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Friday, April 20, 2012, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Cremation will take place and a private family committal service will be held at a later date.
