Marvin J. Plooster, 82, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, surrounded by his family at The Cedars, McPherson. He had worked at National Cooperative Refinery Association, was a security guard at Abbott Laboratories, and most recently, was a greeter at Walmart.
He was born on June 16, 1930, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Arnold S. and Cleon Clara (Hayes) Plooster. On May 14, 1951, Marvin was united in marriage to Gloria June Bengston in Kansas City, Kansas.
Marvin served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2715 and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include: wife, Gloria of the home; children, Sheryl Miller and husband, John, of McPherson, Larry Plooster and wife, Berdeanna, of Pocatello, ID, and Keith Plooster and wife, Sheila, of McPherson, KS; seven grandchildren, Heather Miller, Misty Shaw and husband, Brad, Melissa Plooster, Michael Plooster and wife, Breanna, Matthew Plooster, Christopher Plooster, and Stephanie Baker and husband, Levi; six great-grandchildren, Alexia and Benjamin Shaw, Triss and Avienda Plooster, Hunter Plooster, and Braelynn Baker; two step-great-grandchildren, Daken Baker and Myles Baker.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Leaf and Rev. Lynn Scott officiating. Inurnment of the cremains with Military Honors will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, at the Andover Cemetery.
