Martha R. Becker, 88, of McPherson, went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 24, 2014. She had been at the McPherson Hospital for a short stay. She was a lifetime resident of the state of Kansas, most of that time in McPherson County.
She was born on May 26, 1925, in McPherson, the daughter of John T. and Nettie (Decker) Becker. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1943. On March 18, 1943, she married Lincoln T. Becker in McPherson, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2014. They were married for almost 71 years.
Martha was a homemaker and raised four children, for the most part on their farm south of Marquette, KS. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1949, where she helped cook and serve funeral luncheons, belonged to the American Baptist Women, and was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She also worked at CertainTeed, her husband’s contracting business, and volunteered at Save N’ Share for many years.
Survivors include: son, Duane Becker and wife, Reba, of Lindsborg, KS; daughter, Cheryl Becker-Cook of McPherson, KS; daughter, Debora Ward and husband, David, of Drumright, OK; son, Daryl Becker and wife, Shari, of McPherson, KS; brothers, Charlie Becker of Warrensburg, MO and Harvey Becker of Avera, GA; sister, Della Spann of McPherson, KS; six grandchildren, Matt Ward, Dr. Kyle Ward, Toby Becker, Megan Sweeney, Melinda Guerrero, and Luke Sanders; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Clarence Becker and Jesse Becker; sisters, Irene Wiebe, Nora Fulkerson, and Helen Jantz.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jon Black officiating. Burial will precede the service at 10:00 AM, Saturday, at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, March 28, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
