Marlin Christensen

Marlin J. Christensen, 76, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He worked in oil field production, both in the sale of supplies and also in pump repair. Mr. Christensen was also a veteran of the Kansas Air National Guard. He had been a resident of Canton since 1984, moving from Galva.

He was born February 15, 1936, in McPherson, the son of Agnar and Rosalie (Schroff) Christensen. He spent most of his early years in the Galva area and graduated from McPherson High School in the class of 1954.

On January 14, 1984, he married Joan L. (Lafferty) Mabes in Wichita, KS.

He was a member of Canton United Methodist Church, Canton Lions Club, Santa Fe Trail Society, and McPherson County Historical Society.

Survivors include: sons, Brian Christensen of Clearwater, KS, Joel Christensen (Chris) of Gretna, NE, and Royce Christensen of Rockford, IL; step-daughters, Jacque Rinker (Ronn) of McPherson, KS, Renee Smith (Steven) of McPherson, KS, Rhonda Hamby (Chuck) of Ellinwood, KS, and Michelle Unruh (Brantley) of Galva, KS; sister, Nola Hawkinson of Marquette, KS; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 1, 2012, at Canton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Harry Christian officiating. Private inurnment will take place in Empire Cemetery, Galva. There will be no visitation.
