Marjorie A. Rinker

Marjorie “Marge” (Jones) Rinker, 87, of McPherson, Kansas died Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Brookdale Assisted Living in McPherson.

Marge was born November 21, 1930 in Wheatland, WY, the daughter of Esther and Lester Jones. She graduated Wheatland High School in 1948. She met Keith Rinker, and they married in Torrington, WY on November 21, 1953.

Marge and Keith moved to Hill City, KS in 1966 where she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Keith worked for Mobil Oil Company and Marge raised their three children, Ronald, Rhonda and Rodney. She took great pride in all of their accomplishments and particularly enjoyed cheering for them at Hill City Ringneck athletic events. The Rinker household was a preferred spot for her children’s many friends and Marge would have it no other way. Many of them will read this obituary and recall fond memories of encouragement and laughter with Mrs. Rinker. The future spouses of her children found similar acceptance and love underneath her roof, as this was Marge’s way.

After the kids were raised and Keith retired, Marge and Keith moved to McPherson in 1996 to be closer to their kids and grandkids. The pair enjoyed 54 years of loving matrimony and mutual fondness, when on January 5, 2008, Marge experienced the heartbreak of her lifetime, when Keith preceded her in death. During this time and others, Marge found comfort in her faith and her church home at the Countryside Covenant Church.

Marge enjoyed watching pretty much any sport on television, second only to watching her grandchildren in person at their sporting events, continuing to do so right up until the year of her death. She was an avid reader and kept an immaculately tidy home, where she experienced great joy in visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always having something sweet on hand for them. Marge pushed her family to be their best. She was always available for a phone call with no-nonsense advice, providing words of support, comfort and a shared laugh. Her grandchildren will certainly feel the emptiness the next time they instinctively reach for the phone.

Survivors include: her sons, Ronn and Rod, their wives, Jacque and Jennifer, of McPherson, KS; daughter, Rhonda and husband, Guy Ryan, of Salina, KS; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Countryside Covenant Church, 940 E Northview, McPherson, KS 67460. Pastor Jon Black will be officiating. Inurnment will be at the McPherson Cemetery directly after the service. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile, Kindred Hospice, or Brookdale Senior Living in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
