Margaret "Peggy" Johnson

Margaret A. "Peggy" (Nies) Johnson, 75, of Lindsborg went home to heaven on April 10, 2013.

Peggy was born on July 21, 1937, the daughter of Rev. Frank and Florence (Sweigart) Nies in Reading, PA. Her family moved to Colorado in the 1950's, living in Rocky Ford where her father was a pastor. Peggy graduated from Rocky Ford High School, where she met the love of her life, Ronald Johnson. After attending one semester of college in McPherson, KS, Peggy and Ronald were married on March 10, 1956, and they moved to Colorado Springs to raise their family. In 2006, she and Ron relocated to Lindsborg, Kansas.

Peggy was a partner with Ronald in the plumbing business they owned, Wright Plumbing and Heating, where she worked for many years as bookkeeper and office manager. She also loved working in Aunt Agda's Attic, the antique/coin shop she owned with Ron in Lindsborg. Peggy was an enthusiastic volunteer; in Colorado Springs, she loved working with the Get Set Preschool at First Presbyterian Church, Junior League, and was a volunteer receptionist for Focus on the Family. In Lindsborg, she enjoyed working with Meals on Wheels and as a docent with the Sandzen Gallery. She and Ron organized many travel tours, taking friends and family all over the world. She was an avid hiker and bicyclist, and in recent years enjoyed singing in the Messiah Festival in Lindsborg.

Peggy's faith and church involvement was at the center of her life. She grew up in the Church of the Brethren, was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs for over 35 years, and most recently was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lindsborg, KS. She was always very active in the life of each congregation, serving as an elder and deacon and on many committees. Her earnest challenge for all who knew her was to "love God and love each other."

Peggy is survived by: her husband of 57 years, Ronald Johnson; children, Rhonda (Richard) Wootton of Lindsborg, KS, Frank (Cindy) Johnson of Colorado Springs, Ronald "RJ" (Laura) Johnson of Colorado Springs, Richard (Emily) Johnson of Colorado Springs, Lita (Gene) Bain of Sunray, TX; two sisters; Gloria Rule of Sebring, Ohio and Esther Elstun of Fairfax, VA; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She loved and adored her family.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lindsborg. A second service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, April 30, at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
