Margaret A. Goodson

Margaret Adaline (Mackey) Goodson, 83, of McPherson and formerly of Inman, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at The Cedars. She had worked as a secretary for Farmers Alliance Ins. Co., Alliance Life, and the registrar’s office at McPherson College.

She was born on November 13, 1930, in Vona, Colorado, the daughter of Harry B. and Mildred F. (Johnson) Mackey. On October 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to Joe C. Goodson in Denver, Colorado, before moving to McPherson, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children, Mark and Lacretia. On June 12, 2001, she moved to Pleasant View Estates in Inman, Kansas.

She was a member of Wheatland Baptist Church and was a board member for Christian Women’s Club.

Margaret worked at Farmers Alliance Co. until their children were born, becoming a stay-at-home mom. When their children were old enough to begin school, she returned to Farmers Alliance, working part time during the school year. She also worked part-time at McPherson College in the registrar’s office.

Margaret’s main desire in life was to live for Jesus, please him and to help others to follow Jesus. Margaret played the piano and organ in church, taught Sunday school, and enjoyed working with the teens of the church. She would read the Bible, memorizing bible verses that would direct and guide her life. Spending time with her grandchildren was the joy of her life. She loved to read Bible stories and Precious Moments books to them before going to bed. When the grandkids came to visit for several days, they would ride bikes, play at the park and go on walks. She especially loved to hear Leah and Lydia play the piano and other instruments. Other enjoyments were raising house plants and going for walks.

Survivors include: a son, Mark Goodson of Hutchinson, KS; daughter Lacretia Fitzjarrald and husband, Barry, of Newton, KS; sisters, Roberta Vaughn and husband, Marshall, of Caldwell, ID and Vivian Turner of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Leah Fitzjarrald, Lydia Rikoff (Joshua), Isaac Fitzjarrald, and Rachel Fitzjarrald.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Norman Mackey.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 30, 2014, at Wheatland Baptist Church, McPherson with Rev. Terry Post officiating. Burial will follow at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
