Our dear mother and grandmother, Margaret Sue Ensz, was born on February 16, 1928, in rural Hesston, Kansas, the daughter of Jacob H and Fannie E (Yost) Dyck. She peacefully passed away on September 5, 2024, at Moundridge Manor, Moundridge, KS reaching the age of 96 years.
Mother attended the French school north of Hesston, KS where she completed 8 years of schooling. Mother grew to womanhood in the rural Hesston and Halstead communities together with her siblings. She helped with the housework, working on the farm raising livestock, cultivating corn with horses, and tying bales on the baler.
When she was 12 years old, she felt the call of God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on June 23, 1940, by Frank Wenger. She loved the Lord and remained faithful to her vows until the end.
On October 12, 1947, mom was united in marriage to Rueben Ensz at Hesston, KS. They shared 59 years together. One daughter and four sons were born to this union.
They established their home on a farm near Windom, KS where they lived for 28 years. Mother was a diligent homemaker, always neat and tidy, tirelessly caring for her family. This included baking pies and bread, sometimes late into the night.
In 1975, folks moved to a farmstead 2 miles NW of Inman where they resided for 13 years. A highlight of mother’s life was in 1989 when they built a new home in Inman. There, grandma always made Christmas special with her raspberry salad and her long table filled with children and grandchildren. For 46 years, Mom diligently cared for Dad as together they faced the challenges of his MS. Mom was very lonely after Dad’s passing in November of 2006. She filled her hours quilting, visiting family, and traveling. In 2019, mom moved to an apartment at Pleasant View Home. She lived there for three years before moving to the Moundridge Manor. The family greatly appreciates the care she received there from the nursing staff and hospice.
Those left to cherish fond memories are four sons, Galen and wife Twyla Ensz of Bonners Ferry, ID, Richard and wife Deanna Ensz of Windom, KS, Keith and wife Linda Ensz of Inman, KS, and Harlin and wife Laurie Ensz of Inman, KS; son-in-law Kenneth Koehn of Montezuma, KS; sister-in-law Darlene Ensz of Manitoba, Canada; 21 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Karen Koehn; and six siblings, Harold Dyck, Neva Schmidt, Clifford Dyck, John Dyck, Velma Jantzen, and Kenneth Dyck.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday, September 9, 2024, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Inman, KS. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 10, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Burial will follow at Zion Church Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to Moundridge Manor in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
