Luella Bartel

Luella (Schmidt) Bartel, 93, of McPherson, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Bethesda Home, Goessel. She was a homemaker.

Luella was born on December 3, 1921, in Hillsboro, KS, the daughter of Herman and Susie (Unruh) Schmidt. She graduated from Hillsboro High School. On September 13, 1946, Luella was united in marriage to Harrison F. Bartel in Hillsboro, KS.

She was a member of First Mennonite Church and Christian Women’s Fellowship.

Survivors include: son, Frank Bartel of McPherson, KS; daughters, Harriet Woelk and husband, Mark, of Goessel, KS and Debra Shorman and husband, Gene, of McPherson, KS; brother, Howard Schmidt and wife, Norma, of Hesston, KS; two grandsons, Jonathan Shorman of Lawrence, KS and David Shorman of Manhattan, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Eldon Schmidt and Willis Schmidt.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 2, 2015, at First Mennonite Church, McPherson with Rev. Kathy Neufeld Dunn officiating. Burial will precede the service at 9:30 AM, Monday, at Lehigh Mennonite Cemetery, Lehigh. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
