Lois A. Bersuch

Lois Arlene (Kesler) Bersuch passed peacefully from this earthly realm to her heavenly home on March 23, 2016, at Salina Regional Hospital. Lois was the seventh child born to Reverend Dennis Wilbur and Ilah Evalina (Garber) Kesler on March 24, 1934, in Quinter KS. Her family moved to Sabetha, KS when she was nine years old. She graduated Sabetha High School in the class of 1952. She attended McPherson College for one and a half years, receiving her “MRS” degree when she married her soulmate, E. Steven Bersuch, on June 6, 1954, at Rock Creek Church in Sabetha, KS (officiated by her father Dennis Kesler). Lois and Steve attended McPherson College together, but the courtship didn’t start until she “captured” Steve during the college’s Sadie Hawkins Day celebrations. Lois and Steve lived in McPherson, KS where she worked at McPherson & Citizens State Bank as bookkeeper, supervisor of bookkeeping, and eventually as a bank teller (for 17 years), at Sterling Drug Company for two years, two years as a legal secretary, and two years as secretary for McPherson Prairie View mental health office.

She volunteered faithfully at the McPherson Church of the Brethren and The Cedars Nursing Home. Lois enjoyed singing in the Church of the Brethren choir for 60 plus years and ringing handbells in the Church’s Angelus Ringers handbell choir since their inception, retiring from the group 3 years ago. She was a gifted pianist, clarinet and recorder player, a talented artist, wonderful cook/baker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Ilah Kesler; three sisters, Esther Orr, Edith Harris, and Velma Harris; and two brothers, Harold Kesler and Melvin Kesler.

She leaves behind her beloved husband, Steve of McPherson; one sister, Helen (Maurice) Pautz of Agate, CO; son, Dennis (Jazell) Bersuch of McPherson; daughter, Debbie Furgason of McPherson; five grandchildren, Trevor Furgason of McPherson, Devon Bersuch (Dan Tolle) of Roxbury, KS, Trent (Ariel) Furgason of Buhler, KS, Courtney (Rory) Rierson of McPherson, and Taylor Bersuch of McPherson; and seven great-grandchildren, Madison, Rylie, and Samantha Tolle, Zoey and T.J. Furgason, and Rheamie and Grady Rierson.

The memorial service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 16, 2016, at McPherson Church of the Brethren with Rev. Chris Whitacre and Rev. Kathryn Whitacre officiating.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the McPherson Church of the Brethren or Heifer International in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Lois A. Bersuch please visit our Sympathy Store.
