Linda Stucky Oberst, 99, of McPherson, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2008, at The Cedars, McPherson. Linda was born on May 14, 1909, in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Gideon and Emilie (Goering) Stucky. She graduated from McPherson High School and McPherson College. She was a homemaker and teacher, teaching 44 years at Peaceful Rural School in Moundridge, Smoky Hill School in Lindsborg, Turkey Creek School in rural McPherson, and City of McPherson Elementary Schools.
On August 12, 1949, Linda was united in marriage to Carl W. Oberst in rural McPherson, Kansas. Carl preceded her in death on February 25, 1993.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, McPherson Area Retired Teachers Assn., Kansas State Teachers Assn., Oriental Chapter #58-Order of the Eastern Star, Kansas Phi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Lydia Church Circle.
The funeral service will be Thursday, June 19, 2008, at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Her survivors include: brother, Willard Stucky of North Newton; sisters, Sara Daum of McPherson, Elizabeth Belknap of Inman, Margaret Thiessen of Hutchinson, and Martha Stucky of Newton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. Oberst, brother, Paul Stucky, and sisters, Bertha Reimer and Mary Doerksen.
