Lester Griffith

Lester E. Griffith, 89, of McPherson and formerly of Marion, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012, at McPherson Hospital. He was a retired County Agricultural Extension Agent, serving in Wilson and Marion Counties.

He was born November 23, 1922, in Pawnee County, Kansas, the son of William and Katie (Tiday) Griffith. He graduated from Larned High School in 1940 and from Kansas State University in 1950.

On October 14, 1951, he married Ruth Ann Boyle in Wichita, Kansas.

Lester was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served during World War II.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Ann of the home; a daughter, Pam Klenda (John) of McPherson, KS; two sons, Ed Griffith (Carol) of Wichita, KS and Jeff Griffith (Jeannie) of Topeka, KS; a sister, Ethel Busset of Lee's Summit, MO; five grandchildren; Kylie Klenda-Schneider (Chris), Kasey Klenda, Lauren Griffith, Katie Griffith, and Maggie Griffith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Graveside service will take place at the Marion Cemetery (Marion, KS) at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 19. A Service of Celebration will follow at 2:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church in McPherson. Rev. Michael Marion and Rev. Chris Whitacre will officiate the service. There will be no visitation.
