Leonard Allen “Pete” Edwards, 92, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi RMC, St. Joseph Campus, Wichita, KS. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for several different pipeline companies across the United States.

Leonard served in the Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946 and the United States Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War.

Leonard was born on March 24, 1928, in Hardin, MO, the son of Henry and Margaret (Bueler) Edwards. He was united in marriage to Shirley J. Gregg on January 24, 1955, in Carrollton, MO. This union was blessed with two sons, Randy and Russell.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley of the home; two sons, Randy Edwards (Janette) of Newton, KS and Russell Edwards (Terrie) of Lincoln, NE; a sister, Mildred Dorsey of Carrollton, MO; five grandchildren, Travis Edwards (April), Kimberly Erin (James), Katie Humpal (Major Jesse, U.S. A.F.), Jennifer Alejandre (Joel), Jake Edwards (Alycia); and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert Edwards.

A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 24, 2020, at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Cate officiating. The family requests that attendees wear masks. Inurnment will be at the Ebeneezer Cemetery in Bogard, MO at a later date.
