Leo Mantz

Leo Mantz, 97, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, surrounded by family at his home.  He owned and operated Mantz Masonry.

 

He was born on November 26, 1926, in Bazine, KS, the son of Jacob and Kathyrine (Ketcher) Mantz.  On October 20, 1947, Leo was united in marriage to Bessie Mae Robinson in Miami, OK.  This union was blessed with the birth of six children. Leo and Bessie were married for 62 years before her passing on April 3, 2010.

 

Leo served in the United States Army during World War II.  He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2715 and American Legion Post #24.  Leo was also a longtime member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church.

 

Survivors include: four children, Connie (Ronald) Luttig of McPherson, KS, Nancy (Aaron) Hull of Moses Lake, WA, Kim (Floyd) Ishler of McPherson, KS, and Jan Shober of Inman, KS; grandchildren, Mitch Luttig, Monte Luttig, Shanna Tanner, Michelle Lemm, Jason Shober, Josh Shober, Joe Shober, Robert Mantz, Ericka Keith,  Melisa Jones, and Emily Schultz; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended families and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeff Mantz; a daughter, Sherry Nobert; son-in-law, Rod Shober; two grandsons, Mike Luttig and Mark Luttig; a great-grandson, Sean David Whisenhunt; and siblings, Henry Mantz, Ed Mantz, Elmer Mantz, and Lillian Barnett.

 

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM, Monday, January 1, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 2, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
