Leland A. Peterson, 78, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at his home in McPherson. He was a farmer and worked at Rodney Milling Company and CertainTeed.
He was born on June 2, 1935 in rural Falun, Kansas, the son of Arthur Rudolph and Pearl Cecillia (Rupert) Peterson. He graduated from Lindsborg High School.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He was also in the Army National Guard. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
On February 14, 1961, Leland was united in marriage to Phyllis J. Williams at Galva, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of the home; son, Gary Peterson and wife, Debbie, of Lindsborg, KS; daughters, Tammy Cape and husband, LeRoy, of McPherson, KS and Debbie Stamm and husband, Don, of Cheyenne, WY; five brothers, Leon Peterson of McPherson, KS, Delbert Peterson of Lindsborg, KS, Eugene Peterson and wife, Mary, of Lindsborg, KS, Bobby Peterson of Lindsborg, KS, and Jim Peterson and wife, Bernice, of Lindsborg, KS; three sisters, Leora Peterson of Lindsborg, KS, Virginia Patrick of McPherson, KS, and Carol Peterson of McPherson, KS; six grandchildren, Jessica Harrison, Brad Peterson and wife, Corrie, Cody Cape, Devin Cape, Jami Haley, and Nicole Pearce and husband, Josh; eight great-grandchildren, Levi Harrison, Olivia Peterson, Hunter Peterson, Cason Haley, Ashlynn Haley, Jaren Haley, Riggin Pearce, and Ryatt Pearce.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Doug Peterson.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, for family and close friends at the Freemount Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lindsborg.
