LaWanda May Giesel, 91, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at McPherson Care Center. She was a homemaker, managed the Storage Chalet, and taught school at South Diamond, West Fairview, West Kentuck, and Canton Elementary Schools.
She was born on December 16, 1922, in Roxbury, KS, the daughter of Louis and Ruby Jane (DeBolt) Clark. She graduated from Roxbury High School as Valedictorian of her class and also attended Bethany College. On September 5, 1950, she was united in marriage to Chester J. Giesel in Roxbury, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 16, 1959.
She was a member of New Life Foursquare Church, where she served as church treasurer for 50 years and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary #2715, and AGLOW.
Survivors include: two sons, Jim Giesel (Charlotte) of Gypsum, KS and Gary Giesel of Smithville, OK; two grandchildren, Daisy Friesen (Matt) of McPherson, KS and Ginger Coyle (Charles) of McPherson, KS; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Barbara Jenkins (John) of Windom, KS and Bernice Lorenzen of McPherson, KS; and several nieces & nephews.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 27, 2014, at New Life Foursquare Church with Pastor Chuck Baker officiating. Burial will follow at the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
