Larry L. Nichols, Sr.

McPherson, KS

Larry Leroy Nichols, Sr. was born on April 11, 1944, to Roy Abner and Dorothy May (Henne) Nichols in Roxbury, Kansas. Larry had a son, Jeff, born to his first marriage with Carol Britton. To his second marriage with Elizabeth Machado was born Larry, Thomas, and Roy. He also helped raise Robert, Janie, and Chris. He was a truck driver. His hobbies included racoon hunting, raising dogs, going to the lake, driving around, poking at a fire, drinking coffee, bragging on his grandkids, liking to race, and visiting with people. After he retired, he would provide transportation to his friends for their appointments. Dad never knew a stranger. His passion was going to church at Shiloh Pentecostal Church (Haysville) and New Legacy Church (McPherson). He received The Holy Ghost on March 29, 2009, and was baptized in Jesus’ Name. 

Survivors include his siblings: James (Ruby) Nichols, Bob (Willie) Nichols, Rhonda Woods, Mary Johnson, Rose (Kevin) McKune; children, Robert (Ramona) Escamilla, Janie (Ben) Chatham, Jeff Nichols, Chris Gonzales, Larry (Heather) Nichols, Thomas (Sadee) Nichols, Roy Nichols; grandchildren: Dakota (Clarissa) Nichols, Kyle Nichols, Elizabeth Taylor, Micheal Gonzales, Sunny (Andrew) Montoya, Sarah Nichols, Kayotte (Adina) Nichols, Shelby Nichols, Chantey Nichols, Jamasen Nichols, Chayton Nichols, Isaiah Nichols, Abrey Nichols, Jonah Nichols, Daxson Nichols, Jessica Reyna, Jordan (Rebecca) Payne, Travis Werner; and known as “Old Grandpa” to his great-grandchildren: Jayce Taylor, Inabelle Taylor, Xzena Taylor, Paisley Nichols, Silas Nichols, Levi Nichols, Karsyn Nichols, Delaney Nichols, Jonathan Montoya, Caden Renya, Evan Batman, Dakota Payne, Jordan Payne Jr, Delilah Payne, Violet Payne, Parker Payne, Shelby Payne, and Skyler Payne. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Doug Johnson.

A visitation & viewing will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, February 6, 2025, at New Legacy Church, 1215 N. Grimes St., McPherson. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 7, at New Legacy Church with Pastor Wayne Rowley officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury.
