Karolyn Kay Moors, 81, of Galva, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, surrounded by family at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, KS.
Karolyn was born on December 8, 1938, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Marvin J. and Irene L. (Unruh) Koehn. She was the fifth of seven children.
She graduated from Galva High School in 1957 and from cosmetology school in Salina in 1958.
Karolyn met Russell M. Moors the summer of 1956 while driving around McPherson with her sister. They stopped at a gas station to “check out” this guy that her sister had seen and wanted Karolyn to meet. Karolyn and Russell soon began dating. They were united in marriage at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Galva, August 24, 1958.
Karolyn began her career as a cosmetologist that same year and beginning in the early 1970’s she established her own successful beauty shop, operating from their home. This allowed her to be at home with her children too. Health issues required her to slow down her practice in recent years, retiring completely in 2018. She received her Senior Status license from the Kansas Board of Cosmetology this year.
Always thinking of others, Karolyn was a true caregiver. Showing her thoughtfulness by baking, sewing, mending, visiting and sharing craft projects with others. She was the one you called for advice for making pie crust, dinner rolls, cookies and much more. She enjoyed her role as homemaker and was always trying new decorating ideas and recipes to make their home warm, welcoming and comfortable. She enjoyed planning parties, often entertaining for family, hosting a holiday open house for her beauty shop clients and hosting a Pinochle group.
Karolyn was a member of the First Baptist Church. She shared her talent of caring for others by cooking and baking for her daughter’s youth groups, bible school, Awana and funeral dinners. She also enjoyed assisting in serving at Awana and funeral meals too.
Over the last two years Karolyn’s mobility was limited however, she would continue her caregiving by keeping family, friends and neighbors in prayers and often telephone to check on them.
Her faith, thoughtfulness, love and prayers will be missed and will continue as her legacy.
Survivors include: her loving husband of 62 years, Russell of the home; two daughters, Kim Richards and husband, Phillip, of Manhattan, KS and Amy Cady and husband, Ben, of Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren, Lucas and Jacob Richards and Emmett and Charlie Cady; a brother, Kenny Koehn of Galva, KS; three sisters, Jeannette Logback of Moundridge, KS, Marie Bandy of Galva, KS, and Sharon Stubby and husband, Jerry, of Inman, KS; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marvin “Junior” Koehn, and sister, Nada Bird.
A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The family will not be present. A private family funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, McPherson, at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 23, with Pastor John Pattison officiating. Masks are required. Burial will follow at the McPherson Cemetery. To view a livestream broadcast of the service, please click here: https://boxcast.tv/view/karolyn-moors-celebration-of-life-711456
