Judith Emma Butler, 79, of McPherson, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017, at her home. She was a homemaker. She also had worked at McPherson College in the Alumni Development office, Registrar’s office and the library. At Emporia State University, she helped her husband, Ed, direct the Elderhostel Program.

Judy was born on March 11, 1938, in McLouth, KS, the daughter of Ira Noah Harvey and Freda Elizabeth (Edmonds) Brammell. She graduated from Perry High School and received her bachelor’s degree from McPherson College.

On January 24, 1958, Judy was united in marriage to Edward Ray Butler at the Lone Star Church near Lawrence, KS. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2013.

She was a member of McPherson Church of the Brethren where she served on the deacons’ board and as a greeter.

Survivors include: son, Jeff (Angela) Butler of McPherson, KS; daughter, Nancy (Forrest) Moyer of McPherson, KS; siblings, David (Lorna) Brammell of Kansas City, MO and Betty (Robert) Tointon of Greeley, CO; sisters-in-law, Barbara Brammell of Topeka, KS and Eileen Butler of Hillsboro, KS; brother-in-law, Donald (Velva) Butler of Grundy Center, IA; and eight grandchildren, Isabelle, Ivanna, Israel, Ilanna, & Isaiah Moyer and Hannah, Zachary, & Abigale Butler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Roger Brammell; infant son, Mark; stillborn daughter, Beth Ann; and daughter, Linda Brittingham.

The memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 2, 2017, at McPherson Church of the Brethren with Rev. Chris Whitacre officiating. Inurnment will take place prior at 9:00 AM, Saturday, September 2, at McPherson Cemetery.
