John B. Shaw, 99, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at his home in rural McPherson. He owned and operated Shaw Tree Service.
John was born December 27, 1924, in Mills, NE, the son of Orville Leroy and Rubie Ann (Rose) Shaw. He graduated from Central College. On June 2, 1949, John was united in marriage to Eunice Lucille Adams in Colorado Springs, CO. This union was blessed with six children, Robert, Timothy, LaVonda, Karolyn, Rick, and Lisa.
John served in the United States Army during World War II in the Japanese Occupation Forces. He was a longtime member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church and his relationship with Christ was the top priority in his life. John was very creative and inventive. He wrote a book full of poems and always had a testimony ready to share of the Lord's faithfulness, to encourage all who would listen. He created entertainment & play for his grandchildren with his amazing inventive playground equipment that his grandkids affectionately called, "Dizzyland". He served his Lord faithfully and loved people well. He was generous as he welcomed many into his home when they needed a place to stay. He also visited shut ins with compassion, as recently as this past year.
Survivors include six children, Robert (Rosemarie) Shaw of Eugene, OR, Timothy (Judy) Shaw of McPherson, KS, LaVonda (Mike) Hinrichsen of Colorado Springs, CO, Karolyn (Jeff) Johnson of McPherson, KS, Rick (Julie) Shaw of Waco, TX, and Lisa (Matt) Hampton of Goddard, KS; sister-in-law, Evelyn Shaw of Greenville, IL; 30 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Marian Gowan, James Shaw, Paul Shaw, Ruth Kenyon, and Richard Shaw; and grandson, Levi Hampton. He longed to see everyone come to know Jesus & see them again someday in heaven. He often talked about going to heaven to be with his savior & we rejoice today knowing he is finally home!
