John "Johnny Pete" Peterson

John I. "Johnny Pete" Peterson, 73, of McPherson, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was retired from the National Cooperative Refinery Association where he had worked in the instrument shop.

John was born on March 28, 1938, in Lindsborg, Kansas, the son of Elmer P. and Agnes R. (Smallwood) Peterson. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1956. On January 8, 1960, he was united in marriage to Janice L. Workman in McPherson. She preceded him in death on December 7, 1998.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and McPherson Bassmasters. He also enjoyed his bowling league, fishing, and playing golf.

Survivors include: his son, John Alan Peterson of Salina, KS; three daughters, Debbie Peterson of Wichita, KS, Shari Peterson of Virginia Beach, VA, and Beverly Rosebrough (Phillip) of McPherson, KS; brothers, Lowell Peterson of McPherson, KS and Robert Peterson (Eloise) of Lindsborg, KS; two granddaughters, Amber Bowen (Nick) of McPherson, KS and Saige Rosebrough of McPherson, KS; and one great-grandson, Hudson Reed Krehbiel of McPherson, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Paul Oborny officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:30 PM, Tuesday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, with Rosary beginning at 7:30 PM.

Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Red Cross, or The Lord's Diner in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
