John Edgar

John R. Edgar, 77, of McPherson, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in McPherson. He was a retired Senior Production Operator for the Sanofi-Winthrop company in McPherson and also worked part-time for Deere Trail Implement. From 1968 to 1986 he was the co-owner of J.D.’s Kwik Burger in McPherson.

He was born November 28, 1933 in Conesville, Iowa, the son of Ardie J. and Elva B. (Probst) Edgar. He spent his younger years in Iowa and graduated from high school in Conesville, IA.

On August 14, 1953, he married Marty L. Sifrit in Coralville, Iowa. Mr. Edgar was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Japan during his tour of duty.

John was a member of New Gottland Covenant Church and American Legion Post #24, both of McPherson.

Survivors include: his wife, Marty of the home; three children, Craig Edgar (Julie) of McPherson, Carla Koehn (Brian) of McPherson, and Chris Edgar (Donna) of Galva; four sisters, Lois Christofferson of West Liberty, IA, Shirley Carey of Dawn, MO, Billie Osborne (Bob) of Peoria, AZ, and Gwen Shoemaker of Sun City West, AZ; six grandchildren, Savannah Edgar, Mollie and Sally Koehn, Joshua Edgar (Irma), Amanda Edgar, and Elizabeth May(Jesse); two great-grandchildren, Jonathan May and June Edgar; sisters-in-law, Mary Driskill (Jerry) of McPherson and Helen Bernal of Acton, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eloise Frisinger, brothers-in-law, Edward Christofferson, Russell Frisinger, Donnell Carey, Ben Shoemaker, and Eugene Bernal.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 25, at New Gottland Covenant Church. Private inurnment will take place in McPherson Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation.
