Joan N. Kappel, 83, of McPherson, died Thursday, January 18, 2007, at Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Joan had been a McPherson resident since 1997, formerly of Sun City West, AZ and Overland Park, KS. She was born on February 23, 1923, at McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Fred J. and Lottie Jane (Howe) Hein. She attended McPherson High School. On April 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to George William Kappel at Bremerton, WA. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1998. She was a retired bridal consultant and retail sales clerk.
Joan was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Deborah Circle, Cedars Village Council, and the McPherson Ladies Reading Circle.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 22, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Marion officiating. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Survivors include: her daughter, George Ann Fisher of Butler, MO; three sisters, LeAnna Moller-Little of McPherson, KS, Pat Homsey of Overland Park, KS, and Hazel Bagley of Sun City, AZ; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George William Kappel, and by her twin sister, Jean Arnn.
