Jerry Lee Batson, 72, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Ascension/Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born on September 6, 1950, in McPherson, KS, the son of William Lee and Erma Fae (Turpin) Batson. He graduated from McPherson High School.

Jerry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He worked as a mail carrier for the McPherson Post Office and retired from Kansas Department of Transportation where he worked in highway maintenance. He also worked for M.A.S.W.U. in his retirement years.

He was baptized in November 2010 at the Church of the Nazarene in McPherson and attended Journey Mennonite Church of McPherson where he continued to attend online while in the nursing home.

Jerry was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to watching the Royals and K-State Wildcats. But most of all, he enjoyed attending his kids and grandkids sports games in and around McPherson. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle that he painted up with Wildcat purple, fishing, watching, and reading westerns. He was known for his sense of humor, and many who came to know him would enjoy good conversation.

Survivors include: children, Jeremy Batson (Michelle) of Chilhowie, VA, Jennifer Keim (Jody) of Assaria, KS, Zachary Batson (Morgan) of Ephrata, PA, Jacob Batson (Sheena) of McPherson, KS, and Luke Batson of McPherson, KS; half-sister, Kris Little (Larry) of Canton, KS; half-brother, Cecil Gage of McPherson, KS; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; biological mother, Annie Huber; and siblings, William Batson, Donald Batson, and James “Jim” Batson.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at McPherson Cemetery with Pastor Jim Ostlund officiating.
